I find inspiration for my paintings on the beach or near the water. In general, going to the beach is like a mini-vacation. Everyone is relaxed and it is amazing how children can entertain themselves playing with just the water, sand and maybe a bucket and a spade. In my studio, I create contemporary paintings from these beach scenes. Whenever I'm near the sea or near a lake during summertime and the sun is shining, I head out and observe, sketch and photograph people relaxing and having fun. In the last few years, I have been to California, Los Angeles (Laguna Beach, Manhattan Beach), Vancouver Island, Hornby Island, Washington State, Latin America, Miami, Florida, Oregon, The Virgin Islands, South America, Aruba, and Bonaire. I find it interesting that where ever you are in the world and how much cultures can differ when people are at the seaside, they enjoy themselves, they relax and children play. Luckily I live on Curacao in the Caribbean so I have access to many beautiful beaches and sunshine year round!
